My name is Alyssa Holguin (née Nilam-Hall) and I am a board-certified speech-language pathologist specializing in the evaluation and treatment of children with various developmental delays including autism, down syndrome, childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) and other developmental disorders. I currently work privately in the greater Los Angeles, South Bay, Long Beach and surrounding areas providing speech therapy services to children from birth to 25 years of age. Working closely with other professionals such as occupational therapists, physical therapists, special educators and behavior consultants, I have developed a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach to therapy that focuses on a child’s strengths and needs. Strategies are individualized and tailored to address each specific child’s abilities to ensure the maximum opportunities for progress.
I earned my Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from The Pennsylvania State University, and my Bachelor’s degree from The California State Polytechnic University-Pomona. While at Penn State, I was awarded the Penn State Children’s Communicative Competence training grant from the Department of Education. The training grant provided extensive specialized coursework and training in providing Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) services to children with complex communication needs (e.g., children of all ages with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, traumatic brain injuries, multiple disabilities, etc.) and their families. Through the years, I’ve had a rewarding and wonderful experience working with and supporting children and their families in their journey toward enhanced communication abilities.
